Promoting the knowledge of excellent dentistry JOIN

About the Royal Odonto-Chirurgical Society of Scotland

The “Odonto” is the oldest dental society in Europe, and we believe the longest continuously active in the world. The Society was formed to “promote and diffuse knowledge connected with Dental Science and Practice” and I have tried to enable this in the programme of lectures for 2023-2024.

It is vital that these are as attractive to Members at all stages in their careers so the presentations about the ageing dentition by Frauke Müller from Geneva and on managing the worn dentition by Sarah Pollington from Sheffield have been chosen to give clear practical messages for all to follow. I am also delighted that we are returning to the pre-COVID tradition of an additional lecture in Dundee on 26 October 2023 by my distinguished predecessor as President, Robbie Lawson, so please do join us there if you can.

We will continue to use the Symposium Hall at The Royal College of Surgeons for our meetings as in the calendar, but we are also actively looking at ways to widen interest and involvement in the Society so please do get in touch if you have any ideas or suggestions for either meeting topics or format that will help to support you in practice moving forward. All our meetings are eligible for CPD allowances but also offer an opportunity to meet colleagues in a relaxed, informal setting and catch up over a welcome cup of coffee or glass of wine.

There is a dinner after each meeting to entertain our guest speaker(s) and all Members are warmly invited to attend. If you wish to do so, please let our Honorary Secretary know a few days ahead of the meetings.

The Society’s Annual Dinner will be held in The New Club, Princes Street, Edinburgh, on 15 March 2024 and will be hosted by my successor as President, Dr Steve Bonsor.

Please take the opportunity to browse the website, get dates in your diary and learn about the history of our wonderful Society, of which I am honoured to be President.

I look forward to welcoming Members, old, new, and prospective, to our meetings soon.
