Welcome to the website of The Royal Odonto-Chirurgical Society of Scotland - known to its many members as the “Odonto”.
The Society is the oldest dental society in Europe - and may be the oldest in the world. It was granted Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth II on its centenary in 1967. Its founding object was “the promotion and diffusion of knowledge in matters connected with Dental Science and Practice and the advancement of Dentistry”. l warmly welcome practising and retired dentists to the Society.
I would be delighted to meet any new or prospective members at one of our meetings which are held at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, over the winter season - usually on the second Thursday of the month. Please feel free to come along and “try us out”. We welcome leading members of the profession and those allied to dentistry - both nationally and internationally - to lecture to us. Our meetings are accredited for CPD and the appropriate payment for NHS dentists. We also host a very popular annual dinner as close to 13th March as possible - the date of our founding. This year it will again return to the New Club in Princes Street and be hosted by Dr Robbie Lawson.
In common with many other professions and organisations, the last year has been especially challenging and I am delighted to confirm that, restrictions permitting, we will be holding a full series of lectures in the Symposium Hall. I am particularly looking forward to chatting with you in person - hopefully even face-to face - all over a soft drink or glass of wine prior to the meeting and catching up with your news. There also is a dinner held after every meeting which you are all most welcome to come to - just let the Honorary Secretary know a few days in advance.
